Pikari is a tale inspired by the city of Ahmedabad, the largest city of State of Gujarat in the North West part of India. It is characterised both by its flourishing industries and its traditional customs. Since my very first encounter with Ahmedabad in 2008, I have been spellbound by the city. Pikari is onomatopoeia in Japanese, which means shining or flashing. All the lights, even the tiny sparkle from a firecracker, melted into one single photograph when seen through a lens of my large-format-camera during the long-time exposure. Through photography I embarked upon the mapping of this old, rapidly changing place. Shiho Kito is a photographer and independent curator currently based in Tokyo.
