折元立身はパフォーマンス・アーティストとして、ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレを始め現代美術の前線で、40年以上に渡り国際的な活動を繰り広げてきました。90年代には、顔一面にフランスパンを付けた「パン人間」の路上パフォーマンスで注目され、90年代後半には、自身の母を作品に登場させた「アート・ママ」のシリーズで世界的に知られるようになりました。 折元の作品は、さまざまなひとびととの即興的なふれあいを通して生まれます。 ふれあいの対象は、人間にとどまらず動物たちにまで及び、生きとし生けるものとのコミュニケーションをアートにするという独創的な世界を切り開きました。

The performance artist Tatsumi Orimoto, a resident of Kawasaki, has been at the forefront of contemporary art for more than 40 years. His international presence includes a show at the Venice Biennale. His works are full of unique ideas with the power to surprise.
He has created his artworks together with various animals. Some of them are in the forms of videos and photographs in which he presented an art piece to animals or played with them, such as “Showing Pigs a Yellow Painted Board (1989),” “Playing with 800 Chickens (2003),” and “Carrying a Baby Pig on My Back (2012).”
