Formed in 1996. Art unit by SEMBO Kensuke and AKAIWA Yae based in exonemo.com. Crossing over freely between digital and analog, the world of computer network and the real world, they reveal the relationship between technology and its users. They work on many experimental projects that create humorous and innovative artworks, depicting the effects of digital media on modern society. "The Road Movie" won the Golden Nica for Net Vision category at Prix Ars Electronica 2006. They organized IDPW in 2012.
The "likes" that my uploaded photo receives vibrate my pocket. It is becoming more difficult to define the boundaries of the physical body when its senses are connected to and expanded by information space. Using a classical approach in concealing/blotting out the surface, the "Photoplasm series" is an experiment which questions the aforementioned boundaries, setting equal conditions for the physical and the device, data and material. Though the result does not appear in photo or moving image, we can be confident that it exists there.
