JAPONICA is an art collective that began in Shinjuku in 2002 (@japonica_art). Forming members going by the names Arsine, Daisuke, Saa-kun, Goro, Sugi-sama, and Tomo-chan all met in the Oil Painting Department of Shinjuku Academy of Fine Arts. A bunch skilled in the arts and crafts making full use of an array of medium.
Their long-awaided first solo exhibition came in 2013, entitled "Japonica Pamyu Pamyu's Japonica Pamyu Pamueseum" (Art Center Ongoing, Kichijoji)。They were awarded the 17th Taro Okamoto Contemporary Art Award Special Prize in 2014 for their installation critically depicting social phenomenon "up in flames". The team dispersed various pranks, parodies and simulacrum online, inviting themselves into various art movements. JAPONICA are also art instructors of "BUBKA Magazine presents 'Occupy School'". Their ongoing occasional serialization of web magazine "VOBO" is currently available.
