Born in 1987.
Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, MFA in Intermedia Art.
Katayama had both legs amputated at the age of 9. Thereafter, she has taken self-portraits using self-decorated prosthetics. She is currently involved in a wide range of activities in addition to creating artwork, including music, modeling, and lecturing. She has received the Encouragement Prize at "The 8th Gunma Biennale for Young Artists '05", the Grand Prize at "Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi 2012". Major exhibitions include "identity, body it. ―curated by Takashi Azumaya―" (NCA、2010), the Aichi Triennale 2013, and solo exhibition "you're mine" (TRAUMARIS, 2014).
"30 days in tatsumachi studio" is a self portrait photographed/produced during artist residency at Arts Maebashi. "oil work" is an installation of bottles of items preserved in oil: lint from objet that I made, snacks I ate while working, plants from the yard, etc.
