While working mainly with painting, Soutome has also been found to interweave three-dimensional and photographic aspects. Current works involve unconventional canvas shapes and freestanding (not wall-hanging) pieces in exploration of methods that bring painting into the contemporary world.
At first glance, it may seem like my works are mere placements of color; paintings configured from simple color surfaces.
In actuality, layer upon layer of thinly dissolved acrylic paint have been superimposed so as to penetrate even the reverse of the canvas.
It goes without saying that in a modern realm bombarded with digital images, I am connecting and disconnecting while contemplating the future and the meaning of painting today by deliberately supporting a primitive painting method.
