虚空に浮かぶ1枚の紙切れ。もしくは小さなキャンバス。鈴木知佳の「ドローイング」は、透明のアクリルに紙切れ1枚分、あるいは小さなキャンバスひとつ分の「空間」を彫ることによって制作されます。一見すると何にも指示されずに物体が浮かんでいるように見えますが、実際は鑑賞者が誤認識する物体の分だけそこに空間がある、というものです。この認識の逆転を起点に、多様で且つ複雑なイメージの広がりがもたらされます。
A piece of paper floating in the air. Or a small canvas. Chika Suzuki’s “drawings” are made by carving a piece of paper or a small canvas into clear acrylic. They are produced by carving each "spaces” of each pieces of paper or small canvases in transparent acrylic. At first glance, the objects appear something to be floating without any support, but in reality, there are spaces for the objects that the viewers are misunderstanding. Starting from this reversal of perception, the spread of diverse and complex images is brought about.

鈴木の作品を初めて拝見した時、額の内側に透明の0号キャンバスが浮かんでいるのがどうにも不思議で、その仕組みというか仕掛けが分からずにしげしげとその状況を見続けた次第。その時に展示会場のスタッフから「アクリルを彫っている」と聞いて驚愕、そこから間も無く開催された個展で紙1枚を彫った作品やあらゆる場所で採取した砂粒を並べる作品などを拝見し、時間・空間、さまざまな「間」について新鮮で深いイメージを提供してくれる作家や作品であることを認識したのでした。
