I’d like to make a small challenge to those who want to possess contemporary art. It is not recommended to people who prefer pieces that are obviously “art”, such as painting or sculpture, nor is it for collectors who desire things that already have established value. Rather, it is for those who wish to continue to ask the question “what is art?” and to create a culture that is unique to their own time, along with the artists of that time. For them, I recommend two artists: BCL and Mami Hirano.
These two, using materials and forms unique to this moment, ask questions regarding the meaning of living at this time and contemporaneous issues beautifully. But as a part of their work is alive, or constantly in a state of flux (their form continually updating and never settling in a single state), they would resist easy understanding or possession. If you are not someone who wants a stylish interior, fashion to show off or tools for investment, but one who truly loves art, understanding the real value behind the work and wholeheartedly wishing to share the artists’ views of the world, then I strongly recommend them.
