Koju Takahashi (b.1987) is a self-taught artist. Up until 2017, he had not made contact with anyone for 10 years and instead busied himself reading and making pictures. 1960s American Abstract Expressionist works led him towards the path to an artist, however, in terms of materials, he chooses to work with pigments, mortar, and scraps (wood) to create his own unique form of abstract painting. This year, Takahashi had his first exhibition at Gallery OUT of PLACE in Nara where his exhibition titled “Studies and Expressions on Universality” left a strong impression on many visitors. At the 3331 ART FAIR 2019, we hope to see how he has developed as an artist based on his 10 years of mental solitude.
