Masanori Tomita (born in 1989, living in Tokyo) is mainly known for his paintings. Dull and heavy colors, thickly painted textures, time accumulating in layers, perception as a process of dismantling images, subjects that are only instruments of transformative potential. His talents as a painter are overflowing. Waves are being made. Eyes and hands are shaking. Fire is blazing. Things are torn, connected, mixed and stirred back and forth. It may sound out of the blue, but if I were a novelist, I’d probably ask him to design the cover of my books. I’d try covering the entire outer surface of the books with his paintings. Get rid of the barcode because it’s in the way. My name and the title can be buried at the bottom of the paint. I wouldn’t even mind if the reader couldn’t take their eyes off the cover, forgetting to open the book at all.
