I use landscapes that perceive emotions as my motifs. By combining these with afterimages of memories gained subconsciously through everyday life, I try to express the unreality within reality through paintings.

Upon moving her base of activity from Berlin to London last summer, Ebisu Mio is currently undergoing a graduate course in paining at the University of the Arts London, Wimbledon College of Arts. Until now, she has been creating work across locations such as Beppu and Hakata in Japan and overseas in the UK, Berlin, and Korea, attempting to draw out the sensation of images felt in various regions through dynamic expression. Ebisu’s paintings have characteristically seeping paint, and a lightness in touch that recalls simple pictures from ancient Japan. To the artist, this expresses the concept that the world inside the painting is not one that remains still.
