Using ink, Okada densely packs pattern-like elaborate lines onto pictures’ surfaces. While there are probably other artists who use this kind of method, he stands out because of the thorough attention paid to not the micro but the macro, that is, the overall surface of the painting. The balance is wonderful. If we see a single pattern as a soul and intermediary unit, then we could say that there is a kind of rhythm to the way these units are combined. Is this rhythmic sense not innate in Okada? In this way, micro depictions and aggregations of intermediary bodies come together to produce works that resonate as a whole.
