地方のタイル工場と、そこで働く工員のK氏とのやりとりを契機とする作品。
工場という合理性を求められる場では、どうしても精神や肉体は酷使される。そこで20年以上働く熟練工員であるK氏は、日々どんなことを感じているのかが気になった。インタビューから受ける彼の印象は、工場で感じたものと真逆な印象で暗くない。前進も後退も望まない人生を受け入れ、またそれを望んでいた。

These works are based on the opportunity I had to interact with a local tile factory and one of its workers, Mr. K. In such a place as a factory streamlined efficiency is required, and no matter what, the mind and body will become overworked. I wondered what Mr. K’s daily feelings were as a skilled worker with over 20 years of experience. The impression I got during his interview was opposite from what I felt at the factory – it was not bleak at all. He longed neither for advancement nor retirement; this was the life he wanted.

アキバタマビ21では、工芸学科陶プログラムの卒業生による「C pieces」展に出品。やきものの多様性を豊かに示す展覧会において、渡邊さんはこの映像作品を発表しました。手の痕跡を徹底的に排除したような卓越した技術を持ちながら、手仕事の快や、素材の可能性を開くというベクトルではなく、陶のルーツから近代、そして今を含めた歴史性をきっかけとした表現を行っているようにみえます。その表現は普段意識にはのぼらない私たちの生活や、その生活自体を支える価値観までもを問い直すことのように思えてきます。
