Selected Artists

I believe that at the core of art is something which cannot be bought and sold—just like how love cannot be bought with money. Perhaps for this reason, I am hesitant when agreeing to provide recommendations for art fairs. Of course, an artist’s works should be able to be sold and a system for selling them is necessary. I therefore decided to recommend as much as possible artists who create artworks that do not seem like they will sell. I have always lived in Fukuoka, and therefore wanted to choose artists who are (have been) based out of Kyushu. Also, for a long time I have done work related to art, and am tired of large, powerful, overwhelming, and moving art, in other words, its macho-ness and self-importance. I therefore wanted to offer my support to artworks that are modest and ordinary and at times appear to be scrawny. Since I think art is something that in a deep place encourages one in living and instills courage, I wanted to choose people who make such artworks. It was in this way that I chose these three artists.
