小田島 等
1972年 東京都生まれ
桑沢デザイン研究所卒業
専門学校在学中にスージー甘金氏の元で修行。95年よりデザイナーとしてやジャケットデザインの仕事を中心に数多く手がける。
同時に漫画家、イラストレーターとして活動。主な出版物、デザイン作品集『ANONYMOUS POP』。
コラージュ＆ドゥローイング作品集『1987/2017』。
絵を描くことは、再編集を繰り返すこと。
『場』『人々』『集い』『街』などの、イメージの積層を再編集します。
それは、記憶の整理＝夢、の真似事かもしれない。
制作進行過程は、部屋の掃除に似ている。
のろのろとした道程で、知らない感情に出会うこともあります。

The act of painting is about the repetition of editing.
“Place”, “People”, “Gathering”, “City”, etc. are the components that are re-edited as layers of an image.
This may be an imitation of the process of dreaming = memory organization.
The development of creating is similar to cleaning a room.
There are even times when movement is slow-paced, and we may encounter unrealized sentiments.

80年代後半にメディアデビューした70年代生まれの小田島は長らくイラストレーションやグラフィックデザインの世界で活躍してきたが、活動の原点は15歳の頃にポップアートに目覚めたことによるものだった。すでに幅広い技法を身につけているが、革新的であり続けようとする姿勢を崩すことはなく、小田島の中では常に実験が繰り返され続けている状態であると言える。BEST MUSIC名義の音楽活動にも見られるように「美術」の枠内にある作家ではない。しかし、だからこそこの世界にもたらされる風は新鮮で、ファンも多い。
