Open a colorless transparent box. Inside the box a transparent darkness expands. This black expanse is stirred by the hand flapping mad. The trail of stirred black leaves cracks, and the cracks are filled with white. These become light & shadow, and give way to forms. Depending on the path taken, according to this path, there is nothing that can't be made. That's why you pursue it, even if the end's unknown. Everything's in there, but nobody can get out.

Yonekura has always created quite evocative images. On top of a polished panel he places acrylic paints and runs a silicon sheet over them, creating an image in a short period of time. He is a painter who focuses on the primordial moment when an image emerges from matter. Chance and the workings of the unconscious are present in his movements, so perhaps he could be seen as a descendant of the Surrealists. However, his strong interest in the origins of images also gives his works an intensity and lucidity: if one traces the trails of paint that have become images, there is a clearness to them that allows one to follow the process by which this happened. This is another appealing aspect of his work.
