When I first moved to Kyōtango seven years ago, I began to notice that the objects around me in my daily life were all dancing, creating beautiful lines and patterns. Just as a choreographer works with dancers, I started creating opportunities for the objects around me to dance. The video work "Drift” was shown in Hong Kong last year. This year it looks like I will be performing together with it as part of a stage work in Sweden. The "Drift Trace" series is an attempt to freeze dance into still life.

Continuing to express herself as a dancer, Miyakita grasps the things around her—places and sounds, air, time, breath, light and wind—and their relationships, using her own body as a medium. She spreads things she perceives through her highly honed senses to the tip of every finger. Same explosiveness and sensitivity also appear in her artwork as something unique to her. Her simple endeavors, like little experiments, bring great discovery to daily life, and her expression, which delicately digs up the emotions buried in our everyday lives, is full of a sense of affirmation for living just as you are. The way she faces the here and now is dignified and graceful, and it seems to remind us the primal meaning of art; the interaction between persons through expressions.
