I convert what exists of the world infront of my eyes into painting. While transforming an image onto a canvas, I ponder what colors and textures of paints I should choose and how I use my brushstrokes. Then my“painting”mind will sink onto the canvas.

If one were required to classify the work of Keisuke Matsuda, it would be as abstract painting. Yet it seems meaningless to talk about these pieces in conventional terms such as illusions or subjects. In terms of the act of painting – paint applied to a square canvas – it is no different from other tableau. The distinction between the work of Matsuda and that of others is the fact that we cannot read Matsuda’s art with any of the formulas that are familiar to us, generating a frustrating and masochistic pleasure. However, as some works have compelling tension and others are relaxed, his painting is, in a way, orthodox.
