Kenta Ishige works from the starting point of revisiting urban theories grounded in the practices of housing estates and suburbs. By applying a virtual gaze to the blocks of a city, he develops a mutually complimentary perspective that also focuses on the skeleton structures inside the urban environment. With no pretention, he continues to sample the ordinary and the everyday, channeling the city dweller’s unique sense of distance to what is not unusual to a city. Collecting each module that enriches our life, and accepting them with a rough gaze – the work demonstrates a position of ennui which is neither dependency nor denial.
