The work I’m exhibiting this time are prototypes of toys intended for commercialization, and a self-published book. The toy prototypes feature rotating cubes, and come in three types: a “spinning-top” type and a “car” type, a Japanese “chess”. The book is about the origins of the phrase “contemporary art” in Japanese, and is a summary of my findings from the National Diet Library. This will be its first public release.

Saito Koheita conducts various activities using many different media and modes of expression. He has a sense of humor with subtle irony, and creates unexpected forms of work by grasping little contradictions, gaps and oddities in contemporary society with his sharp observant eyes, and developing them with unique research. I am looking forward to seeing how he presents his attitude of cutting into both systems of society and the institution of contemporary art.
