On the theme of poetry, I create work ranging from paintings, three-dimensional objects, photographs, sound, text to mixed-media installations mainly through improvisational drawings. The subject matter of my work always lies in the space that emerges by the mixture of different objects; linear motifs such as architecture and structures and fluid images. Being self-aware of the violence lurking in the act of art, all of my expressions become tense, slipping through the restraints of expression and non-expression, like a drawn line that imperceptibly cuts through the blank space.

What is the curious charm that Soichiro Murata (born in 1985, living in Nara) exudes? At times he is calm and collected, working on installations that analytically showcase the unique visual experience occurring in between the natural and artificial, between landscape and architecture. However, at other times he is romantic to a fault, unabashedly exhibiting paintings that are corporeal and meager. He shamelessly confesses that he loves the world. Perhaps we should be tolerant enough to think that the collapse of this “artist” character is rather natural. He is not an artist we should love, but instead one which we cannot help but love.
