I am exploring the boundary between painting and reality, the place where fiction and reality exist together, the things that are opaque and mysterious, and the relationship between images and materiality.

The charcoal strokes on the canvas are rough, yet at the same time delicate. Taishi Nishi creates work as though grabbing the darkness of the night. There is no need to mention the oppressiveness of his darkness, but its charm resides in the glimpse of positivity it offers. His ambivalent work is not just shown in two dimensions, but also incorporates three-dimensional elements. Darkness elicits a sense of mysterious fear to others, yet when Nishi connects the figures he pulls out of the darkness on his canvases with his three-dimensional work, a unique atmosphere begins to emerge, developing a strange aura in the space.
