Although it was a group show by young artistst, “BARRACKOUT”, an exhibition Akiyama organized in 2016, attracted rather many visitors despite, even extending its duration. It was an epoch-making exhibition, proving his high ability not only as an artist, but also as a curator. Perhaps because he is an architect at one side, he draws information from the area or community, curates them under the subjects such as the city and the Olympics, earthquakes, temporary construction, disposal and recycling, weaving it into the field of contemporary art. He not only evokes memories of the past, but also raise our, the onlookers`, awareness. Here in Japan, when the country is transforming towards 2020, what kind of works/actions will he undertake? He’s certainly the artist to watch for from now on.
