1998年の開館準備期から11年間東京オペラシティアートギャラリーに勤務。2009年より2011年までブリスベンのクイーンズランド州立美術館／現代美術館内の研究機関ACAPAに客員キュレーターとして在籍後、韓国国立現代美術館2011年度インターナショナル・フェローシップ・リサーチャーとしてソウルに滞在。アジア地域の現代美術、共同企画、美術館やビエンナーレをはじめとする芸術文化制度と社会の関係に関心を持ち、第15回アジアン・アート・ビエンナーレ・バングラデシュ2012、あいちトリエンナーレ2013、札幌国際芸術祭2014キュレーター等国際展のキュレーターを務める。名古屋と東京を拠点にインディペンデント・キュレーターとして活動する傍ら、2014年10月から2018年3月まで東京藝術大学准教授。現在、あいちトリエンナーレ2019チーフ・キュレーター。
Shihoko IIDA was born in Tokyo and is currently based in Nagoya. She worked at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery for eleven years since its preparation for inauguration in 1988. Major curated exhibitions at TOCAG include "Wolfgang Tillmans: Freischwimmer" (2004), "Trace Elements: Spirit and Memory in Japanese and Australian Photomedia" (TOCAG, 2008/Performance Space, Sydney, 2009) and others. Between 2009 to 2011, she served as visiting curator at the Australian Centre of Asia Pacific Art, the research section of the Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane. In 2011 she stayed in Seoul for four months as a 2011 International Fellowship Researcher at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. After returning to Japan she has curated numerous international exhibitions, including the 15th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2012 (official curator of Japan participation); Aichi Triennale 2013; and Sapporo International Art Festival 2014. From 2014 to 2018 she was an Associate Professor at the Tokyo University of the Arts. Her areas of interest include contemporary art in Asia, co-curation, and the relationships between society and art institutions, such as art museums and biennials. She has worked on co-curated exhibitions in Seoul, multiple cities in Australia, New Delhi, and Jakarta, among other places. Since August 2017, Iida has been working as Chief Curator for Aichi Triennale 2019.
写真や映像を含む現代の視覚芸術全般に関心を寄せる私にとって、石場さんの写真作品は非常に新鮮に映りました。アーティス自身の手によって被写体に物質的に介入する手法は、美術史においてはコンストラクテッド・フォトの系譜に連ねることができますが、それとも異なる軽妙でコンセプチュアルなアプローチに、今後さらなる発展の可能性を感じました。 また、石場さんは愛知県芸を修了し愛知県を拠点に活動する若手作家で、あいちトリエンナーレ2019の参加アーティストでもあります。地域の若手作家やトリエンナーレの参加アーティストに対して、より多様な活動の機会を提供することは、名古屋を拠点に活動するキュレーターが可能な継続的な支援のひとつです。以上の理由から石場文子さんを選定いたしました。
As a curator with an all around focus on contemporary visual culture, including photography and video, Ayako Ishiba’s photo works appeared extremely fresh to me. Ishiba’s method of physical intervention with the subject could be seen in the context of art history as a continuation of the constructed photo. However, I felt something more from her witty and conceptual approach as even a possible development in this lineage. Moreover, Ishiba graduated from Aichi University of the Arts and has been based mainly in Aichi Prefecture, where she has also participated in the Aichi Triennale 2019. One way for Nagoya based curators, including myself, to offer our support is by widening local or trienniale artists’ activities through opportunities to engage in all kinds of activities. I selected Ishiba with all of these reasons in mind.
