Shiomi Yuko Prize
Born in Tokyo, Yuko Shiomi graduated from Gakushuin University with a degree in political science. She went on to complete a diploma course in contemporary art at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London. Upon returning to Japan, Shiomi worked at Nanjo and Associates as a coordinator for exhibitions and art projects in Japan and abroad as well as overseeing art consultancy and management for corporate art collection. In 2002, she co-founded the nonprofit organization Arts Initiative Tokyo and became its director. As part of AIT’s activities, she initiated a residency program for artists, curators, and writers in addition to a contemporary art educational program called MAD. Besides operating the organization, she is also involved in planning and managing projects with such partners as Mercedes-Benz Japan, Monex, Inc.,Mitsubishi Corporation and Nissan Motor Corporation. She also works as an advisor or a jury for foundations and art awards.
