「“身体的・精神的感覚”をテーマにアニメーションを制作しています。 誰かが感覚したことを自分も同じように感覚することはできないのだけれど、私はどう感じたか言葉で伝える以外に、ある時は何かに例え、ある時は形ないものに表出することで、どうにか他人の感覚を共体験できないかと思っています。 作品はどれも私が日常生活の中で感じるとても些細な痛みや焦り、緊張や脱力などをもとに身体的・精神的の双方から感じたことを混合させながら、一人の人間像を想起させることを目指しています。」
「I create animations about bodily and mental sensations. While one is unable to experience a sensation just as another person does, I think that in addition to communicating via words, sometimes we can share in the experience of others’ sensations by using metaphors or expressing them as formless things. In all of my artworks, I aim to bring to mind the image of a single human while mixing in what I have felt both physically and mentally: everyday life’s very minute pains and impatience, as well as energetic tension and exhaustion. 」

シンプルな線を用いて日常を切り取った表現をアニメーションを通して描く和島ひかりは北海道を拠点としている。札幌の「Think School」でまちづくりと美術制作を学んだ。最優秀賞を取った卒業制作での作品《心臓》（2018）は、自分の心臓を手入れして金庫にしまい、それを身体に収めるというユニークな発想が小気味よく描写されている。そこには緊張、勇気、切り替え、決心など、人間が日々繰り返している感情と行動の機微が端的に表わされている。何気ない日常生活の中で忘れがちな大切な感覚を思い出させる和島の繊細かつ斬新な表現を、この機会にぜひ東京で紹介したい。
Hikari Wajima uses simple lines to depict scenes and episodes from daily life and then makes them into an animation film. Wajima is based in Hokkaido. She studied civic creation and art creation at the Think School in Sapporo. Heart (2108), her graduation project which won the grand prize, contains a unique idea: You may take care of your heart then put it into the safe. Afterward, you may put the safe inside your body. This piece is brisk and delightful. Nervousness, courage, letting go and restarting, and making a decision—such emotions and actions that are a part of our daily lives are frankly and aptly depicted. When we watch this work, we remember the precious feelings and sensations that we experience as we go about; we tend to not notice them because they are so familiar to us. We want to take this opportunity to introduce to the people of Tokyo Wajima’s delicate and innovative expression.
