「I observe the manifestation and exhaustion of qualities that arise when being involved in movement, such as that of physical objects being inserted into systems. In doing so,I'm thinking of a new system by inserting a physical object that produces incorrect readings and jumps in the mechanisms of a system itself.」

Muku Kobayashi’s works involve monitors and vinyl tubes that move intermittently. They look like the models of mechanisms of machines, and they evoke Marcel Duchamp and other avant-garde artists who were entranced by machinery. Furthermore, the recursive structure of the images which the cameras and monitors create shares a commonality with early video art. Thus, Kobayashi’s work can be connected to various endeavors found in the history of art. However, the plump forms of the works, pop colors, strangely organic movements of the equipment, and wordplay-like titles make his creations distinct to him. It strongly feels like he has taken on the works of his predecessors, and he is having fun putting out updates.
