「私は、制作活動の初期より、絵画の抽象表現として、即興的でリズミカルな視覚的動性を特徴とする画面構成を追求してきました。それは、抽象表現の難解さを越えて思考や身体の意識に触れる一つの手段だと考えているからです。私は、空間芸術とされる絵画に時間を取り込もうとします。“Moving”のシリーズでは、磁石が練りこまれた絵の具の粒によって、作品を構成する絵具は自由に支持体の上を移動します。それは、従来の絵画における“完成”の意味合いを取り除き、再編集の可能性を表すことで、絵画に時間の未来性を獲得しようとしています。 」
「Since the early days of my creative activities, I have been pursuing screen compositions characterized by improvised and rhythmic visual dynamics as abstract expressions of paintings. Because it is a way of touching, thinking, and physical consciousness beyond the esotericness of abstract expression. I try to capture time in paintings that are considered to be spatial art. In the “Moving” series, the paint that composes the work freely moves on the support by the particles of the paint into which the magnet is kneaded. It seeks to capture the future of time in paintings by removing the meaning of "completeness" in traditional paintings and expressing the possibility of re-editing.」

田中さんはDJやヒップホップミュージックの作曲方法を絵画制作に援用しながら抽象絵画を制作している作家です。彼の絵画作品は即興的に描かれますが、画面に現れる線や形は、田中さんが以前制作した作品からサンプリング/コピーされ、新しいキャンバスに色や質感を変えてフィードバック/ペースト、ループ/繰り返し複製されていることが多くあります。田中さんの作品を複数並べてみると、作品群に増殖された線や形といった共通の絵画的DNAが存在することがわかるので、彼の制作のメカニズムを理解することができるでしょう。
Tanaka deploys methods of musical composition used in DJ and hip- hop music into his abstract paintings. He paints in a raw and intuitive manner, yet the lines and forms that appear on the surface of paintings are sampled/copied from his older pieces, and are often replicated on a new canvas in a method of feedback/pasting, loop/repeating with different colors and textures. Shown side by side, you can see the presence of a common painterly DNA, including multiplied lines and shapes, which reveal the mechanisms behind his painting method.
